2 More Days!

"So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand."

Isaiah 41:10

The day is approaching so quickly! Julie is scheduled for a c-section Wednesday morning. We are very excited and very nervous. We have been hoping to avoid having a c-section, but it looks like that is the way Magdalena will join us. As you can imagine, it scary enough for Julie to know that she is about to have a big surgery to give birth to Magdalena. It is far more difficult knowing that nothing is certain thereafter as far as how long Magdalena will be able to live outside the womb. We want to give her every chance to live on her own for as long as possible.

It is very easy to be overcome with fear of the future at this point. At the same time, we have such amazing promises from God (such as Isaiah 41:10) that He will get us through. He wants us to constantly remember that He is sovereign, He is in control of our situation, He is good, and He loves us more than we know. He does not want us to live in fear, but in a peace that passes understanding in a full hope in Him alone.

What a tremendous joy we can have, even through suffering, because we have such a wonderful God to take care of us. Please pray for us, especially for Julie's health during surgery and for little Magdalena. Also, please pray for our faith on a daily basis that we will learn to trust God more.

  1. I am encouraged in watching y'all trust the Lord with the life of your precious little girl and with your lives. I will be praying for all of the things you mentioned. Thank you so much for sharing these things with us. I know saying "it's not easy" isn't even close to describing what y'all are going through, and seeing y'all find a smile or laughter and your ability to praise God and celebrate Magdalena is an incredible blessing.

  2. I'm not sure how you will feel about my comments. I have spent my life 'wondering' about god, asking myself 'if'... even if somehow I knew deep down he had his watchful eye on me ... I have been ignoring the signals he has been giving me. He has given me so many .. and I have chosen to remain 'blind' and 'deaf'. Magdelena is reminding me that LIFE is important. That is what God is all about. And that Faith in him is what makes the world a good place, fruitful for families and happiness. Thank you for your blog. It is providing me with such guidance. 3. I am praying for your whole family....and praying that you will have the most precious time with Magdalena.
It's hard to face the unknown and the fear of losing a child (I can not even imagine what you two are oing through--- what strength you have); but through God, ALL things are possible. Only He knows our time, but I'm faithful that he will make that time with Magdaelna the most special time of your lives.

  5. Honestly I cannot even remember how I stumbled upon your blog, but I want you to know that I pray for y'all daily - our God is a good God and He is going to carry you through this time - much love and many prayers to you two (and your extended family) There are MANY out there that may never actually "meet" you who are praying for y'all. I will be praying for the doctors as well - I had to have a c-section (NOT my birthing choice) and it is not an easy recovery so give your sweet wife extra tlc (and a small pillow to help hold her tummy afterwards) I wish there was more that I could "do" for you, in the meantime I will continue to pray. 8. I will be saying prayers for you and your family tomorrow morning as you meet your precious babygirl. I have been following your blog for a little while now but have not posted until now. I read several blogs of other moms who have had babies with trisomy 18. I believe that is how I was directed to your site. I pray that you will have the strength and courage to deal with whatever God gives you tomorrow. Bless you all and lots of love.

  9. Julie,

I have been praying for you and will continue to pray for you as you head to the hospital tomorrow to have your precious little girl, Magdalena. I know it's an exciting time because you finally get to hold your precious baby and yet it's a time of uncertainty. Just live in the moment, Julie, and don't think about ANYTHING else. The Lord will give you all that you need and will carry you every step of the way. Don't worry about anything else, just leave it outside those hospital doors sweet friend. I promise this will be a day you will forever cherish. I cannot explain the peace we felt with Tristan but it was so real. I will be checking in several times tomorrow, awaiting for an update.

    Sincerely, Yvette Hostetter

Magdalena Grace Roberts

This morning Magdalena left this world to be with Jesus. There really isn't too much else I can say but to please pray for Julie and Noah. For now, they do not want any calls, emails or visits. I will you keep you updated on the arrangements.

Making the Decision to Not Make the Decision

I get the question, "Are you going to have any more kids?" asked often. Since finding out Magdalena's diagnosis it was always a tough question to answer. We had always envisioned ourselves with multiple children, but there was always the lingering thought of having to endure this difficult situation again. Although it is less than a one percent chance that we would have another child with T18, the percentage still exists. When pregnant, I said multiple times that I couldn't do this again and my mom constantly reminded me that it is not always that difficult. Being pregnant was physically uncomfortable, but I was referring to the constant emotional exhaustion. As Magdalena continued to do well, Noah and I weren't sure when to begin thinking about other children. Noah and I discussed that I would work really hard at losing my weight, but I was willing to be five pounds more than what I was originally. People poked fun at my not eating Magdalena's birthday cakes...
