Magdalena's Bo bo

As I write in a previous post, Gigi cut Magdalena's nails the first time that it had to be done. From my sisters' mistakes I have learned so much, and because the skin is so close to a baby's nail one of them accidentally cut their child's skin. I was terrified that I would do this. But as in many of our daily situations, it had to be done, so we were forced into taking that leap. Unfortunately, Magdalena received her first bo bo from her mommy, but thankfully only on one finger. The rest still have all of their skin!

  1. Aww! Sad day! I did that the day that my mother went home (several miles away). Needless to say, we both cried...very hard. No fun!

  2. I think I did that to all my babies at least once, and felt awful everytime! Those newborn nails are tough. Welcome to the ranks of guilt ridden mothers :)

  3. I was so terrified of doing that, that I actually bit my babies nails for the first few months. That might be a little weird to some, but it was alot easier than trying to cut the nail, not the child! I just washed their hands before and after.

  4. I did that once to each child and was horrified each time. They survived me!

  7. try biting them. I know it sounds crazy but where do babies hand go? Nowhere. It is so much easier than the fear of cutting them. I actually got that tip rom my (vanderbilt scholar) pediatrician. So I just told my hubby the doc said too ;)

I follow Boothe Farleys Blog and that is (in a round about way) how I found your blog. Your baby is so beautiful and your blog is amazing thank you for sharing your journey.

  8. Poor thing. I did a horrible job on both of my kiddos first nail trims. It just comes with the territory. What's so wonderful is the way they readily forgive...

  9. my mother actually gave my daughter her first at home nail trim. she was watching kaiya so i could get some rest - and i awoke to my mother crying "i cut off the baby's finger!"
she didn't cut her finger off, just knicked her a bit. we laugh about it now, but at the time the three of us were in tears!

Magdalena Grace Roberts

This morning Magdalena left this world to be with Jesus. There really isn't too much else I can say but to please pray for Julie and Noah. For now, they do not want any calls, emails or visits. I will you keep you updated on the arrangements.

Making the Decision to Not Make the Decision

I get the question, "Are you going to have any more kids?" asked often. Since finding out Magdalena's diagnosis it was always a tough question to answer. We had always envisioned ourselves with multiple children, but there was always the lingering thought of having to endure this difficult situation again. Although it is less than a one percent chance that we would have another child with T18, the percentage still exists. When pregnant, I said multiple times that I couldn't do this again and my mom constantly reminded me that it is not always that difficult. Being pregnant was physically uncomfortable, but I was referring to the constant emotional exhaustion. As Magdalena continued to do well, Noah and I weren't sure when to begin thinking about other children. Noah and I discussed that I would work really hard at losing my weight, but I was willing to be five pounds more than what I was originally. People poked fun at my not eating Magdalena's birthday cakes...
