85 Soft Skin Days

Because Magdalena had such a low weight at birth, her skin was so dry and we continued to lather her up with lotion. We were so thankful that the NICU had a new prescription kind that smelled so good! But as she puts on weight her skin is naturally holding in moisture. Now her body, especially her hands, are so smooth. I now understand when someone compares smoothness to a baby's skin!

Magdalena has hit a few milestones that I must share! Because it is so late, I will have to post pictures some other time. First, she has outgrown her first item of clothing! Although all of her clothes are preemies, the sizes vary depending on brand and material. One of the smaller preemie items, and one of my favorites, no longer fits! Between her belly and long body there just is no more room for the little brown onsie with the pink polka dots! She fusses when I change her clothes, so I let her wear it for the last time on Wednesday and did not snap the bottom of the onesie. She would have been too upset if I had tried to change her clothes again.
Also, Magdalena wore her first big girl (newborn size) diaper while at Mimi's tonight. It was still too big, but we were so proud that she had the booty to hold it on her body for a short period of time. Yay, Magdalena!

It is so hard to know the correct feedings to give Magdalena, but as she grows she will continue to increase in the amount of intake. We are in the middle of that change time, so please pray that we don't overfeed or underfeed her. She eats half of her feeding by mouth and the rest by the feeding tube, so we can't just stop when she stops eating. She becomes tired out before her body has taken in enough. We have called the doctor to know what to do for now, and on our next appointment on Tuesday, election day, we will further discuss it.

  5. How wonderful that she is growing! My son was Failure to Thrive, so I know how exciting it is when they actually outgrow an outfit. Does Magdalena see a registered dietician or nutritionist? My son is tube fed, and he sees a nutritionist that helps us make sure he is getting the right amount of nutrition/hydration.

This morning Magdalena left this world to be with Jesus. There really isn't too much else I can say but to please pray for Julie and Noah. For now, they do not want any calls, emails or visits. I will you keep you updated on the arrangements.

Making the Decision to Not Make the Decision

I get the question, "Are you going to have any more kids?" asked often. Since finding out Magdalena's diagnosis it was always a tough question to answer. We had always envisioned ourselves with multiple children, but there was always the lingering thought of having to endure this difficult situation again. Although it is less than a one percent chance that we would have another child with T18, the percentage still exists. When pregnant, I said multiple times that I couldn't do this again and my mom constantly reminded me that it is not always that difficult. Being pregnant was physically uncomfortable, but I was referring to the constant emotional exhaustion. As Magdalena continued to do well, Noah and I weren't sure when to begin thinking about other children. Noah and I discussed that I would work really hard at losing my weight, but I was willing to be five pounds more than what I was originally. People poked fun at my not eating Magdalena's birthday cakes

Hello World!!

Here are my first pictures! Julie is on her way to the room and doing great. As we have more pictures, I will get them up for you to see. Stephen
