How do You Say Her Name??

So many people have seen Magdalena's name in writing, but they have never heard it being said. For this reason, I have decided to explain how to pronounce it. Of course, it is strange, but Noah and I wanted something unique. Also, we both speak Spanish and loved Mary Magdalene's name in Spanish....Magdalena.

So here it is .....

MAD - UH - LAY - NUH

Yes, the "g" is silent, and it is incorrect to pronounce it in a way that it sounds like Madeline. Notice that it is "lay" which means that it has a long "a", not a long "e".

Sorry folks...no nickname. Don't worry if you say it wrong! Just give it a try! You will not offend us by saying it wrong.

Have you ever seen the movie Anne of Green Gables? It is one of our favorites! When asked her name Anne always replies that it is "Anne with an E". She is proud of its uniqueness and so are we of our precious baby's name. Please forgive us for not accepting anything less! I know what you are thinking....and yes, .....we are SO those parents!! Hee hee!

  5. As I have previously blogged, I seriously wondered what you guys were thinking when you named her. Now I know that there could not be a more perfect name for her! I'm just thankful I learned how to spell it before she was born! :)

  6. Her name is as beautiful as she is! And now I see that I have been pronouncing it wrong. Thanks for the pronunciation! :)

I, too, am a huge fan of Anne of Green Gables.

  7. My name is Erica, and I just found your blog via a friend of a friend. Your story is amazing, such a testimony to the faithfulness of God that can always be trusted. My heart feels close to yours because our son was born two months premature, weighing only 2 1/2 pounds. He spent 6 weeks in the NICU and had a rough start to life. Seeing the precious pictures of your tiny little daughter warms my heart. There is nothing like holding such a tiny little baby. My prayers are with you, and I am REJOICING that you are experiencing such a wonderful life with your beautiful, perfect daughter.

  9. Thanks for the clarification; I was pronouncing the "g". I love her name, so elegant. I would not shorten it either! My given name is Elizabeth, but have always been called Betsy and it has been confusing my whole life. For that very reason, all of my children’s first names are the names that they go by. No nicknames here.

Her name is as beautiful as her mother is. Julie, you look radiant in all the pics we see. You must be running on super energy from a super source. Magdelina is beautiful. Dr. Crews is awesome too! You had great physicians around you. And the Greatest Physician guiding them all!! Praise God.

  11. I love how you pronounce it...I don't think it's unusual at all--didn't C.S. Lewis go to Magdalen College? Which, I think, sounds like "MAUD-lin"...

    Wonderful choice.

YEA for unique names! As you know I am a fan. What is funny about this blog is whenever I tell someone about Magdalena I have to repeat her name and explain the pronounciation and I do it the same way...HAHA! Oh and I so own the trilogy!

This morning Magdalena left this world to be with Jesus. There really isn't too much else I can say but to please pray for Julie and Noah. For now, they do not want any calls, emails or visits. I will you keep you updated on the arrangements.

Making the Decision to Not Make the Decision

I get the question, "Are you going to have any more kids?" asked often. Since finding out Magdalena's diagnosis it was always a tough question to answer. We had always envisioned ourselves with multiple children, but there was always the lingering thought of having to endure this difficult situation again. Although it is less than a one percent chance that we would have another child with T18, the percentage still exists. When pregnant, I said multiple times that I couldn't do this again and my mom constantly reminded me that it is not always that difficult. Being pregnant was physically uncomfortable, but I was referring to the constant emotional exhaustion. As Magdalena continued to do well, Noah and I weren't sure when to begin thinking about other children. Noah and I discussed that I would work really hard at losing my weight, but I was willing to be five pounds more than what I was originally. People poked fun at my not eating Magdalena's birthday cakes

Hello World!!

Here are my first pictures! Julie is on her way to the room and doing great. As we have more pictures, I will get them up for you to see. Stephen
