Hearing Jesus Speak into Your Sorrow

On Tuesday I will be giving away a copy of Hearing Jesus Speak into Your Sorrow to a subscriber of this blog. See information at the bottom of post.

Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

At the end of each chapter I look up at Noah and say "This is definitely my favorite book.", and it's easy to see why. As Nancy Guthrie acknowledges early in the book, this was written at a different point in her grief, and as she dug into scripture God gave her the words to compose this book. You will recognize the points that are personal struggles in our suffering and points you straight to the cross to deal with them, and she doesn't expect you to take her word for it. Each chapter is exploding with scripture because when we are suffering that is when we ask and see that "the gospel is really true". Through Nancy's writing we are reminded that through our pain God works for good. I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE, not just those who have lost a child, so that our faith may grow during our suffering.

  1. Hi Julie,
My son (due in June) was diagnosed with tri-18 about 2 months ago. I love reading your blog. It bring me so much hope. I pray we get time with our son, Tate.
I went to life way today to get the book by Nancy, Holding On To Hope but they were out. I saw on your blog where you have "Books" and thought I would try reading something you as a mother that has walked the same path I am walking, what you read to help. I almost got this one. But ordered the other instead. I know the Lord has put your blog in my plath to read. Maybe even just to get the names of these books. Thank you for what Im sure you didnt know was helping a mother having a hard time with the thought of losing a child. I feel your posting of these books was just for me to read.
    Thank you again!

Magdalena Grace Roberts

This morning Magdalena left this world to be with Jesus. There really isn't too much else I can say but to please pray for Julie and Noah. For now, they do not want any calls, emails or visits. I will you keep you updated on the arrangements.

Making the Decision to Not Make the Decision

I get the question, "Are you going to have any more kids?" asked often. Since finding out Magdalena's diagnosis it was always a tough question to answer. We had always envisioned ourselves with multiple children, but there was always the lingering thought of having to endure this difficult situation again. Although it is less than a one percent chance that we would have another child with T18, the percentage still exists. When pregnant, I said multiple times that I couldn't do this again and my mom constantly reminded me that it is not always that difficult. Being pregnant was physically uncomfortable, but I was referring to the constant emotional exhaustion. As Magdalena continued to do well, Noah and I weren't sure when to begin thinking about other children. Noah and I discussed that I would work really hard at losing my weight, but I was willing to be five pounds more than what I was originally. People poked fun at my not eating Magdalena's birthday cakes...
