Papa's Poem to Magdalena

I was pulling out some things for my sister to laminate for me so that I could put them in my scrapbook. One was what we handed out at Magdalena's funeral and inside of it included a poem that Magdalena's Papa (my dad) wrote for her. Growing up, he used to write poems and hide them in our lunches or somewhere like that to remind us he loved us while we were at school. Even in college he would mail us cute little poems. While Magdalena was with us, I asked him if he would prepare something special to put in the service. I know that this was so hard for him to do, especially when she was doing so well with us.

Dad, this means the world to me...Thank you for writing this for your granddaughter.

SHE WAS SENT HERE FROM HEAVEN
WITH A MISSION INDEED
SHE WAS CHOSEN ABOVE
OTHER SOULS COULD EASILY LEAD

OTHER SOULS WHO WERE BRIGHT
BOTH HAPPY AND SMART
HE HAD SENT THOSE BEFORE
BUT THEY CHANGED SO FEW HEARTS

SHE WAS SENT IN A PACKAGE
SO FRAGILE TO TOUCH
BOUND WITH WHAT OTHERS
WOULD SAY IS TOO MUCH

A CLOCK THAT WAS TICKING
NO TIME COULD BE LOST
PEOPLE BEGAN PRAYING
NO MATTER THE COST

IT STARTED WITH A FAMILY
ALL DOWN ON THEIR KNEES
SOON THERE WERE FRIENDS
ALL BEGGING GOD PLEASE

A PASTOR AND STAFF
WOULD FALL IN LINE
WITH FRIENDS TELLING FRIENDS
IT'S NOW PRAYING TIME

CHURCH AFTER CHURCH
WOULD ADD THEIR KNEES TOO
PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T KNOW HER
NOT EVEN A CLUE

MAGDALENA BROUGHT US ALL
TOGETHER IN LOVE
BOUND TOGETHER FOREVER
WITH A GOD SENT SOUL FROM ABOVE

THANK YOU LORD FOR
EACH MOMENT SHE IS HERE
MAY GOD KEEP TOUCHING
THOSE HEARTS FAR AND NEAR

LOVE, PAPA

  1. So sweet. My kids call my dad Papa too. He is right in the poem, she touched so many hearts, not only the ones who got to meet her in person.

Oh My, What beautiful words. How special that your father was able to do that for you all. Once again, Magdalena is touching hearts and reaching souls....Thank you so much for continuing to share her with us.

  3. It's so true that for one so small God used her to change so many hearts. Even though I know her purpose in this world was so very great and the "footprint" she left is deeper than we can imagine. I still wrestle with the waves of pain I know come your way. I can't seam to grasp why some things are the way they are. Although I do believe all ways, always our Savior is there. Every once in a while I look back at the video yall played at her celebration service..mainly to see the end, where she is playing with your grandmother. I always end up laughing through tears! Thank you again for sharing her precious life. I can't wait for the day when I can personally thank her!

  6. What a fortunate daughter you were to have a daddy that wrote poems for you to read at school.

Who knew that this amazing gift would give beautiful words of comfort to so many in celebration of his own amazing grand daughter?!? Thank you for sharing this special poem that says it so well. So many lives have been touched by your adorable Magdalena, just as her Papa said.

Magdalena Grace Roberts

This morning Magdalena left this world to be with Jesus. There really isn't too much else I can say but to please pray for Julie and Noah. For now, they do not want any calls, emails or visits. I will you keep you updated on the arrangements.

Making the Decision to Not Make the Decision

I get the question, "Are you going to have any more kids?" asked often. Since finding out Magdalena's diagnosis it was always a tough question to answer. We had always envisioned ourselves with multiple children, but there was always the lingering thought of having to endure this difficult situation again. Although it is less than a one percent chance that we would have another child with T18, the percentage still exists. When pregnant, I said multiple times that I couldn't do this again and my mom constantly reminded me that it is not always that difficult. Being pregnant was physically uncomfortable, but I was referring to the constant emotional exhaustion. As Magdalena continued to do well, Noah and I weren't sure when to begin thinking about other children. Noah and I discussed that I would work really hard at losing my weight, but I was willing to be five pounds more than what I was originally. People poked fun at my not eating Magdalena's birthday cakes

Hello World!!

Here are my first pictures! Julie is on her way to the room and doing great. As we have more pictures, I will get them up for you to see. Stephen
