My Birthday

As you have seen August is a busy month for my family. On August 11 we celebrate my grandparents and parents anniversaries along with my birthday. Once I had Magdalena, my birthday just doesn’t feel the same, and I think that this is a great thing. Last year we were in the hospital and with all that was going on I asked everyone to just ignore the day. Poor Noah…He bought a cake and had presents, but I just broke down. We gave the cake to the nurses and waited until October before having our family celebration. My sweet Magdalena got to come to it last year, and that means the world to me. I like that my family is thoughtful enough to acknowledge it, but I don’t like to focus all of the attention on me when August just reminds me of Magdalena. It feels like her special month (I wish I had enough pink clothes to where the color everyday!). But as tradition must continue we had our family dinner this past weekend. It is great because all of the kids like to help open up presents and blow out the candles. I LOVE getting their attention, so innocent and sweet with lots of hugs and kisses! And though I was dreading my birthday, I wanted so badly to receive the two things that I had put on my birthday list. I had sent it out months in advance (my family shops early) so that everyone would know what I wanted...money to put toward some pictures that I had made of Magdalena and a book made of my blog. I had been told that there was a computer program where the blog would be bounded into a hardcover book, and since I wrote on it like a journal, keeping up with all of Magdalena’s adventures and tricks, I wanted to keep it. My family tricked me with getting lots of little “happies” all wrapped up for me to open, and one of the last ones was my book. It took a second for me to realize what it was, and it made me so happy. I couldn’t really look at it in front of anyone else because the tears would have been giant sized, but my heart swelled up because my family had taken the time to have it made.

This morning Magdalena left this world to be with Jesus. There really isn't too much else I can say but to please pray for Julie and Noah. For now, they do not want any calls, emails or visits. I will you keep you updated on the arrangements.

Making the Decision to Not Make the Decision

I get the question, "Are you going to have any more kids?" asked often. Since finding out Magdalena's diagnosis it was always a tough question to answer. We had always envisioned ourselves with multiple children, but there was always the lingering thought of having to endure this difficult situation again. Although it is less than a one percent chance that we would have another child with T18, the percentage still exists. When pregnant, I said multiple times that I couldn't do this again and my mom constantly reminded me that it is not always that difficult. Being pregnant was physically uncomfortable, but I was referring to the constant emotional exhaustion. As Magdalena continued to do well, Noah and I weren't sure when to begin thinking about other children. Noah and I discussed that I would work really hard at losing my weight, but I was willing to be five pounds more than what I was originally. People poked fun at my not eating Magdalena's birthday cakes
